Joy M. Lee

Savannah-Joy McGinn Lee, 83, died May 26, 2008 at Spanish Oaks Retreat.

She was born in Savannah, the daughter of the late Thomas Jerome McGinn and Maude Peters McGinn. Joy attended grammar school at Sacred Heart and went on to attend her first year at St. Vincent's Academy on academic scholarship. She graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in 1943. Joy went to college at Mt. Saint Agnes on academic scholarship. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. In 1990, she was the recipient of St. Vincent's McCauley Award, for which she was most proud.

Joy was predeceased by her son, Jack Dana Lee, Jr. and her brother, Richard P. McGinn.

She is survived by: her son, Christopher C. Lee of Savannah; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Joy and Grey Wood of Birmingham, Alabama; two grandchildren, Lauren and Kevin Wood also of Birmingham, Alabama; two brothers, Jack McGinn of Greensboro, North Carolina and George McGinn of Nashville, Tennessee; and special niece and nephew, Melissa and David McGinn; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Reverend Jeremiah McCarthy officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Vincent's Academy, 207 East Liberty Street, Savannah, GA 31401 or Spanish Oaks Hospice, 8510 Whitfield Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406.
